Přehled
O stadionu
Stade Océane is a modern football stadium in the port city of Le Havre on the Normandy coast of north-western France. With a capacity of 25,178 seats, it is the home ground of Le Havre AC -- the oldest football club in France, founded in 1872. The stadium opened on 12 July 2012 with a friendly between Le Havre and Lille, replacing the historic Stade Jules-Deschaseaux. The architectural design was produced by the Paris-based practice SCAU.
Location and surroundings
The stadium stands close to the port district of Le Havre, one of the largest Atlantic harbours in Europe. The surrounding landscape reflects the city's industrial and maritime character: docklands, cranes and the distant estuary of the Seine define the backdrop. The stadium's name -- Océane -- is a direct nod to the proximity of the sea and the English Channel.
Main uses
The ground serves as the home of Le Havre AC for Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 fixtures. The club has historically alternated between the top two divisions, and the modern arena represents a significant upgrade over its predecessor. The stadium also hosts local cultural and sporting events and is open for guided public tours.
Historie
Cesta časem
Stade Océane was built as part of Le Havre's commitment to providing its historic football club with a modern home fit for the twenty-first century.
Decision and construction
The former Stade Jules-Deschaseaux, Le Havre AC's home since 1927, no longer met modern safety or comfort standards. The city resolved to build an entirely new stadium from scratch. The project was entrusted to SCAU, a Paris-based architecture studio with a broad portfolio of sports venues. Construction ran from 2010 to 2012 and was completed on schedule. The official inauguration took place on 12 July 2012, with a friendly match between Le Havre AC and Lille OSC.
The oldest club in France
Le Havre AC, founded in 1872 as Le Havre Athletic Club, is not only the oldest football club in France but one of the key agents in the sport's spread from Britain to the continent during the nineteenth century. British sailors and traders introduced football to the Normandy port, and the club has carried that heritage ever since. Stade Océane embodies the continuity of that tradition: a contemporary shell around a 150-year-old story. The stadium's opening coincided with the club's years in Ligue 2, and the new infrastructure played a role in the eventual return to the top flight.
Atmosféra
Den zápasu
The matchday atmosphere at Stade Océane blends the pride of a historic port city with the identity of France's oldest football club. Supporters of Le Havre AC see the stadium as a symbol of local maritime culture.
Fan culture
Le Havre AC, known as Les Ciel et Marine (Sky Blue and Navy), draws its identity from the sea. The club's fan base is loyal and historically aware, proud of the nineteenth-century heritage that links the docks of Le Havre to the origins of French football. The south stand is the most vocal section of the ground, with organised supporter groups maintaining chants and displays throughout. Ligue 1 seasons attract capacity crowds from across Normandy, while the compact size of Stade Océane means that even moderate attendances generate a close and intense atmosphere.
Big matches
The stadium's most prominent international moment was the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup, for which Stade Océane served as one of nine French host venues for group-stage fixtures. Le Havre thus joined the small circle of French cities to stage women's football at the highest global level. On the domestic front, Le Havre's returns to Ligue 1 -- most recently in the 2023-24 season -- have consistently produced sold-out atmospheres that demonstrate the depth of support in the city.
