Přehled
O stadionu
Solidarnost Samara Arena (formerly Cosmos Arena) is a modern football stadium in Samara, Russia, built as one of twelve venues for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The stadium holds 44,918 spectators and serves as the home ground of FC Krylia Sovetov Samara. With its striking circular white facade and curved roof, the arena has become the most recognisable modern landmark of this Volga River metropolis.
Location and surroundings
The stadium stands on Volzhsky Boulevard in the southern part of Samara, a short distance from the banks of the Volga -- Europe's longest river. The surrounding area features green parks and a waterfront promenade, making a matchday visit easy to combine with a riverside walk. The city centre lies approximately 5 km to the northeast. The new arena replaced the old Metallurg Stadium as the home of Krylia Sovetov, offering dramatically improved capacity, facilities and sightlines.
Main uses
The stadium is the primary home venue of FC Krylia Sovetov Samara and has also hosted fixtures for FC Akron Tolyatti since 2018. During the football season it stages Russian Premier League and cup matches; off-season it hosts cultural events, concerts and other sporting competitions. The venue offers full matchday amenities including fan zones, hospitality suites and modern catering throughout the concourses.
Historie
Cesta časem
Samara Arena was born directly from Russia's award of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Samara -- a city of one million on the Volga with a proud industrial and space-exploration heritage -- was selected as a host city and received an entirely new world-class stadium as a result.
Construction and opening
Planning began in 2012 when Samara authorities announced a design tender, with costs estimated at $320 million. Construction ran from 2014 to 2018, and the completed stadium opened in April 2018, just weeks before the World Cup. The arena was originally named Cosmos Arena -- a tribute to Samara's aerospace industry, symbolised by the city's famous museum housing a real Soyuz rocket. After the tournament a series of naming rights deals followed before the current Solidarnost Samara Arena name was adopted in 2022.
Major renovations
Following the 2018 World Cup, post-tournament adjustments aligned the stadium with long-term club use: temporary seating was replaced with permanent seats offering higher comfort, and the settled capacity stands at 44,918. FIFA Elite-standard technical infrastructure -- pitch, lighting and display systems -- was retained for ongoing league and continental competition.
Notable moments
At the 2018 FIFA World Cup the stadium hosted six matches, culminating in the quarter-final showdown between Uruguay and France (0:2) on 6 July 2018. France advanced to the semi-finals on goals by Raphael Varane and Antoine Griezmann -- a pivotal step on their eventual world championship triumph. Group-stage matches at the venue featured teams from four continents, including the entertaining Japan vs. Senegal draw (2:2) on 24 June 2018.
Atmosféra
Den zápasu
The atmosphere at Solidarnost Samara Arena is shaped by the proud heritage of a club rooted in Soviet-era aviation industry, the vocal loyalty of its supporters and the vivid memories of a World Cup that brought global attention to the Volga city.
Fan culture
FC Krylia Sovetov -- meaning Wings of the Soviets -- is one of Russia's traditional football clubs, founded in the city's aerospace manufacturing community. Supporters carry genuine pride in the club's Soviet-era roots and its league prominence around the turn of the millennium. Home matches are characterised by loud chanting and the club's blue, white and green colours; the ultras section behind the southwest goal sets the tempo for the whole ground. Rivalry fixtures against Moscow's established giants -- CSKA and Spartak -- generate the most electric atmospheres of the Samara football calendar.
Big matches
The stadium's most celebrated moment remains the 2018 World Cup quarter-final between Uruguay and France -- a match that sent France toward the title they would ultimately claim in Moscow. Among group-stage fixtures, Japan vs. Senegal (2:2) on 24 June 2018 stood out for the extraordinary colour and noise brought by fans from across three continents. In domestic football, Krylia Sovetov's home matches against Rubin Kazan and European cup ties have produced the most memorable atmospheres of the post-World Cup era.
