Přehled

O stadionu

Estadio Carlos Tartiere is a modern football stadium in Oviedo, the capital of the Asturias region in northern Spain. With a capacity of 30,500 seats, it is the largest stadium in Asturias and the 17th largest in Spain. The ground was opened in 2000 as a replacement for the original arena of the same name, and has served as the home of Real Oviedo ever since. It is named after Carlos Tartiere, one of the club's founding presidents.

Location and surroundings

The stadium is situated in the northwestern part of Oviedo, close to the university campus. The surrounding area is predominantly residential, with educational institutions nearby. Oviedo is a compact Asturian city with a rich historical centre, located roughly 2-3 kilometres from the ground and reachable by bus or on foot.

Main uses

The stadium serves exclusively as the home ground of Real Oviedo in the Spanish Segunda Division. The arena has also hosted three Spain national team fixtures, one Spain Under-21 international, and occasional matches of the Asturian autonomous team, reflecting its broader regional significance.

Historie

Cesta časem

The original Carlos Tartiere stadium was built in the 1930s and named after Real Oviedo's first president. The club spent decades there, experiencing both glory and hardship. By the turn of the millennium it was clear that the ageing arena no longer met modern standards in terms of capacity or comfort.

Construction of the new stadium

The new Estadio Carlos Tartiere was inaugurated in 2000, preserving the historic name in honour of the club's founding figure. The modern arena was designed from the outset as a dedicated football venue with no athletics track, with stands brought close to the pitch. Its capacity of 30,500 seats made it instantly the largest football ground in the region.

The famous crowdfunding rescue

The defining moment of Real Oviedo's recent history came in 2012, when the club faced bankruptcy and imminent dissolution. What followed was an extraordinary story: supporters, celebrities and football lovers from around the world rallied to save the club through a crowdfunding campaign, purchasing small parcels of shares online. Among those who bought in were singer Dave Matthews and former Spain international Michu. The campaign captured global media attention and turned Oviedo into a worldwide symbol of fan-driven solidarity.

Road back to prominence

Following the rescue, the club gradually restored its sporting and financial health, earning promotion back to the Segunda Division. Carlos Tartiere once again became the stage for ambitious Asturian football, and today it stands as a symbol of the club's resilience and the region's proud identity.

Atmosféra

Den zápasu

Carlos Tartiere is renowned for its passionate atmosphere and the loyalty of Asturian supporters who have stood by their club through the darkest of times. Real Oviedo fans — known as carbayones — are famous for vocal, devoted backing that turns a well-attended match into a vivid and authentic football experience.

Fan culture

Asturias is a mining and industrial region with a strong sense of community identity, and football sits at the heart of that culture. Supporters carry the extraordinary memory of the 2012 rescue, when thousands of fans and sympathisers from around the world became shareholders to prevent the club from disappearing. That shared experience forged a bond between club and supporters that is arguably unique in Spanish football. Regional derbies against Sporting de GijónEl Derbi Asturiano — are among the most intense local clashes in the Spanish football calendar.

Big matches

The most electrifying occasions at Carlos Tartiere are the Asturian derbies, which draw supporters from across the region and generate an unforgettable atmosphere of chants, flags and drumming. The involvement of fans who literally invested their own money to save the club in 2012 gives the ground a very particular character: these are supporters who understand exactly what is at stake, and whose passion is expressed with a genuine sense of ownership.
