O stadionu

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is the home ground of Tottenham Hotspur FC in north London, opened in 2019. With a capacity of 62,850 seats, it is the largest club stadium in London and one of the biggest venues in the Premier League. It replaced the legendary White Hart Lane, which stood virtually on the same site.

Location and surroundings

The stadium is situated in the Tottenham district of the London Borough of Haringey, approximately 10 km north of central London. It was constructed on and immediately adjacent to the old White Hart Lane footprint, and the surrounding neighbourhood underwent extensive regeneration as part of the development. A new retail and residential quarter has grown up around the ground.

Main uses

The stadium serves primarily as the matchday venue for Tottenham Hotspur FC in the Premier League and European competitions. It is also one of two UK venues hosting NFL International Series games -- it features the world's first dividing, retractable synthetic turf pitch, which slides underneath the natural grass to create a dedicated American football surface. Large-scale concerts and other sporting events round out the calendar.

Historie

Cesta časem

Tottenham Hotspur played at White Hart Lane from 1899 until its closure in 2017. Plans for a new, modern stadium were mooted in the early 2000s and, after years of planning and complex land-assembly negotiations, the project gathered momentum.

Construction and opening

Architects Populous designed the stadium to honour the legacy of White Hart Lane while meeting the highest contemporary standards. Demolition of the old ground took place in 2017, with Spurs temporarily relocating to Wembley Stadium. The new venue was officially opened on 3 April 2019 with a Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace (1-0).

Major renovations

As a relatively new stadium, no significant structural renovations have taken place. The facility was built with long-term operation in mind from the outset, including the retractable pitch system, an in-house microbrewery, and extensive concourse catering infrastructure.

Notable moments

Within its first seasons the stadium hosted NFL International Series games, confirming its credentials as a world-class multi-use venue. Boxing events and major concerts quickly followed. The ground established itself rapidly as one of the most prestigious multi-purpose arenas in Europe, combining elite football with American sports spectacle.

Atmosféra

Den zápasu

The atmosphere inside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ranks among the most intense in English football. The enclosed roof keeps noise trapped within the bowl, amplifying the chants and singing of supporters into a wall of sound that visiting teams find deeply unsettling. The South Stand is traditionally the loudest section of the ground.

Fan culture

Supporters of Tottenham Hotspur are known for their passionate backing and remarkable unity even during difficult spells in the season. The club retains a strong connection to the local Tottenham community, historically a working-class area of north London. The rivalry with Arsenal -- the North London Derby -- produces the most charged atmosphere of any fixture in the calendar, with tickets disappearing within minutes of release.

Big matches

The stadium has hosted high-profile UEFA Champions League group and knockout-stage ties, carrying on the European tradition Spurs built during their historic 2018/19 run to the final. Each autumn the NFL International Series brings tens of thousands of American football fans to north London, adding an entirely distinct international atmosphere to the venue. Sold-out concerts by global artists have further cemented the ground's reputation as a landmark entertainment destination.
