Přehled
O stadionu
Dean Court, commercially rebranded as Vitality Stadium since 2015, is a football stadium in Boscombe, a suburb of Bournemouth, Dorset, England. It has been the home of AFC Bournemouth since 1910 and, with a capacity of 11,307, is the smallest stadium in the Premier League in the 2024/25 season. The ground sits within the grounds of Kings Park, surrounded by green space close to the Dorset coastline.
Location and character
The stadium is located in Boscombe, approximately 3 kilometres north-east of Bournemouth town centre. The immediate surroundings consist of residential streets and the extensive Kings Park, which includes an athletics track and sports pitches. The intimate scale of the ground — with stands close to the pitch and a compact footprint — gives Dean Court the unmistakeable character of a traditional English football fortress.
Main uses
Dean Court serves exclusively as the home ground of AFC Bournemouth for Premier League fixtures and domestic cup ties. The venue does not operate as a large-scale multi-purpose arena. Its relatively modest size means that virtually every Premier League home fixture is a sell-out.
Historie
Cesta časem
Dean Court is one of the oldest continuously used football grounds in the English professional game. AFC Bournemouth have occupied the Kings Park site since 1910, and the stadium has developed through multiple phases of redevelopment.
Origins and early era (1910-1990)
The ground was established in 1910, when AFC Bournemouth (playing under various historical names) secured the right to use land in Kings Park. The name Dean Court derives from Cooper Dean, the original landowner whose family were prominent figures in the development of modern Bournemouth. The site saw modest improvements over the decades but remained a typical lower-division English ground with wooden structures and terracing.
Major redevelopment at the turn of the millennium
The most significant transformation took place between 2001 and 2012, when the old stands were demolished in stages and four modern covered all-seater stands were constructed. The redevelopment was driven by Football League ground requirements and brought the stadium to an all-seater configuration. Capacity stabilised at around 11,000. Work was carried out in phases, allowing the club to remain at Dean Court throughout.
Premier League promotion and sponsorship name
In 2015, AFC Bournemouth achieved an historic promotion to the Premier League for the first time in the club's history. In the same year the stadium acquired the sponsorship name Vitality Stadium, under a deal with the Vitality health and insurance group. Despite ongoing discussions about a potential new, larger stadium, Dean Court / Vitality Stadium has remained in continuous use through subsequent Premier League and Championship seasons. Various expansion and relocation plans have been announced by the club, but none had been realised by the end of 2025.
Atmosféra
Den zápasu
Despite its modest capacity, Dean Court generates one of the most intense atmospheres in English football. The tight dimensions, stands close to the pitch, and a passionate Cherries fanbase combine to produce a noise level that belies the ground's size.
Fan culture
The club nickname The Cherries is reflected in the red-and-black colours that dominate both the stands and the supporters. The most vocal section is the South End stand, where the most active ultras and singing supporters congregate. The compact dimensions mean that even an attendance of 8,000-9,000 generates noise comparable to venues of considerably greater capacity. Bournemouth supporters take particular pride in the club's origins in a relatively small coastal town rather than a major metropolitan area.
Historic matches
The most significant occasion in Dean Court's recent history was the final fixture of the 2014/15 season, in which Bournemouth confirmed their maiden Premier League promotion in front of a packed and jubilant home crowd. The stadium has also hosted several notable cup upsets, with the men in red and black defeating opponents from higher divisions in memorable evenings.
