Přehled
O stadionu
30 June Stadium (Arabic: ملعب 30 يونيو) is a modern football stadium in Cairo, Egypt, named in honour of the mass protests of 30 June 2013 that led to the removal of President Mohamed Morsi. With a capacity of approximately 30,000 seats, it is one of the notable venues in Egyptian football and serves as the home ground of Egyptian Air Defence FC, the football club of Egypt's Air Defence Command. The stadium is part of the extensive sports infrastructure built or upgraded by the Egyptian state and armed forces in recent years.
Location and surroundings
The stadium is situated in the New Cairo district on the eastern fringe of the Egyptian capital -- one of the fastest-growing urban zones in the country, characterised by wide boulevards, modern residential complexes and government and military facilities. The city centre of historic Cairo is reachable by car or public transport in approximately 30--45 minutes depending on traffic conditions.
Main uses
The stadium functions primarily as the home ground of Egyptian Air Defence FC in the Egyptian Premier League. It occasionally hosts Egypt national football team fixtures and is used for Egyptian Cup matches of significance. Military administration ensures the smooth running of the facility and the maintenance of professional-standard playing and support infrastructure.
Historie
Cesta časem
30 June Stadium was built against the backdrop of Egypt's profound political transformation following the events of mid-2013. The mass protests of 30 June 2013, when tens of millions of Egyptians took to the streets in cities across the country, resulted in the removal of President Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood. The Egyptian state chose to name the new stadium after this date as a symbolic affirmation of the political change the day represented.
Construction and opening
Construction took place in the first half of the 2010s as part of a broader government and military programme to build or upgrade sports facilities for army-affiliated clubs. The stadium was built under the auspices of the Egyptian Air Defence Command and is understood to have opened around 2014. The design is functional and purpose-built, with an emphasis on capacity, unobstructed sightlines and facilities appropriate for professional domestic football.
Major renovations
Since its opening the stadium has undergone incremental technical upgrades including improved floodlighting, pitch maintenance enhancements and improvements to broadcast facilities. Egypt's hosting of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations prompted a nationwide upgrade of football venues, and the 30 June Stadium was incorporated into preparations to meet CAF standards.
Notable moments
The most significant moments in the stadium's history are the competitive successes of Egyptian Air Defence FC in the Egyptian Premier League and the Egyptian Cup. The club, backed by military resources, is a stable presence in the top flight, and its home fixtures at this ground attract a dedicated following. Beyond sport, the stadium's very name encodes history -- it stands as a lasting physical reminder of one of the most consequential days in modern Egyptian politics.
Atmosféra
Den zápasu
The atmosphere at 30 June Stadium carries the distinctive imprint of military tradition and Egyptian fan culture -- football in Egypt is woven into national identity at a depth rivalled by few countries in the world. Home fixtures for Egyptian Air Defence FC draw a loyal and vocal crowd that generates the energetic, percussion-driven atmosphere characteristic of Cairo football.
Fan culture
Egyptian football is internationally known for its highly organised ultras groups, who bring choreographed tifo displays, drumming sections and relentless chanting to domestic football. The supporters of Egyptian Air Defence take particular pride in their club's military heritage, and a matchday at 30 June Stadium doubles as an expression of loyalty to the institution of the armed forces. When the Egyptian national team has used the stadium, the tribunes have produced the same passionate, flag-waving energy familiar from the iconic Cairo International Stadium.
Big matches
The most atmospheric occasions are home league fixtures against fellow Cairo-based rivals, when the stands fill and the noise levels peak throughout the ninety minutes. Symbolically, the most significant day in the stadium's history remains its inauguration around 2014 -- the naming after 30 June 2013 explicitly bound sport, the military and Egyptian history into a single powerful gesture that Egyptian fans have embraced as part of the club's identity.
