The stadium originally arose under the name War Veterans Memorial Stadium. In 1960 it was redesigned and enlarged, and in 1961 it was dedicated by an Ole Miss vs. Arkansas game before a capacity crowd of 46,000 as Mississippi Memorial Stadium.

Major renovations

With political support from Ole Miss and Mississippi State and leadership from athletic director Warner Alford, the stadium was enlarged to 62,500 in 1981. On 26 September 1981, Ole Miss and Arkansas again dedicated the facility before 63,522 spectators. In 1995 the stadium received its current name, Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Notable moments

From 1973 to 1990 the famous Egg Bowl between Ole Miss and Mississippi State was played here, and from 1992 to 2013 the stadium hosted the championship games of the Mississippi High School Activities Association. For many years it was the largest stadium in the state.
