Construction and opening

The stadium opened in 1995 as Jacksonville Municipal Stadium on the site of the old Gator Bowl Stadium, which had been erected in 1927. Some portions of the older stadium were incorporated into the new one. It was built on the St. Johns River, on about 10 acres of land in downtown Jacksonville, Florida.

Major renovations

The stadium went through a series of naming changes tied to sponsorship rights. From 1997 to 2006 it was named Alltel Stadium after the communications company. In 2010 it was renamed EverBank Field following a deal with the financial company EverBank, extended in 2014 for another ten years. In 2018 it became TIAA Bank Field, and in June 2023 the team announced a return to the name EverBank Stadium.

Notable moments

In 2005, the stadium hosted Super Bowl XXXIX. It is the regular site of the Gator Bowl and the Florida–Georgia rivalry game. During the 2021 NFL season, the New Orleans Saints temporarily played here after being forced to relocate from the Caesars Superdome owing to the aftermath of Hurricane Ida.
